This is the result of a series of tests to establish the above optimum size of a Category header panel.

Sizes larger than this - wider OR deeper - are likely to be be unsatisfactory or unreliable.

The best advice is to pre-prepare Category header images to this EXACT specification outside the site.

A width of 540 works well. The exact critical width before overflowing is unknown but its somewhere between 541 and 549. So a width of 540 which also gives a nicely centered image is fine.

Height is similarly critical. 130 is too much and the image is cut off at the bottom. A series of bracketing tests shows 121 as the critical height. Note that excess height is much less a problem than excess width as the effect is a progressive loss of the bottom of the image.
