Hi,

I am currently digging into my family history and ancestors. While my surname (changed by my great grandfather when his father died) might not suggest it, I am related to a 'Banks' family. Upon looking at an 1861 England and Wales census for my 2nd Great Grandfather (Joseph Banks) in Shadwell, Stepney - East London. It notes that his parents Joseph Banks and Mary Banks (nee Philips) have their birth location as Foulness Island, Essex. Joseph Banks born 1812 and Mary Philips born 1814. If my research were to be correct, Joseph and Mary would be my 3rd Great Grandparents. I would be fascinated to hear from anyone who might be able to corroborate my research, and to learn more about the local history for that period, and why residents would relocate to East London.
