Material kindly supplied by Andrew Hart

The Rayleigh Fire Service has a long and honourable history. Below are some of the photographs from the collection of the late Jeff Hart, officer in charge from the late 1950s until his retirement.

The collection also contains a log book going back to before WW2. This records occasions on which Rayleigh firemen were called upon to help put out fires caused by German bombing as far away as London Docks.

Andrew Hart, Jeff's son, hopes to be able to lodge the material with the Essex Fire Brigade Museum at Grays. This holds comprehensive material and artifacts recording the invaluable work of brave firefighters from all over the county.

Thanks to Sue for a comprehensive snapsot of some of the work by the Rayleigh (22) fire crews.

The wartime log is currently at the Rayleigh museum for analysis of the Rayleigh people within.
