"The Rochford Hundred is a maritime district varying from 10 to 17 miles in length from east to west and about 7 miles in breadth from north to south; bounded on the east by the German Ocean, on the south by the estuary of the Thames, on the north by the tidal river Crouch and on the west by the Barstable Hundred." The Rochford District of today comprises the following areas: Ashingdon,  Barling, Canewdon,  Foulness and the Islands,  Hawkwell,  Hockley,  Hullbridge,  Paglesham,  Rawreth,  Rayleigh,  Rochford,  Stambridge (Great and Little),  Sutton with Shopland and Wakering (Great and Little).
