Stambridge Primary 1924 and 1925
By Nick Clark
I wanted to donate the attached pics of my dear old Dad's school attendance certificates from Stambridge Primary School 1924 and 1925.
These are digital photos of the originals which are with me. Aren't they just beautiful and so elaborate for such a tiny rural school where the kids in the family shared shoes in order to attend?
My Mum, two years younger than my Dad, came from a family of 12 living children and she and her brother, he was the next eldest, shared a pair of stud and laces boots. He would go to school in the morning and then come home lunchtime. He would take off his boots and pass them to my Mum and then she would go off to school for the afternoon session. Both would walk from Cagefield Cottages opposite the Royal Oak to school and back.
lol....imagine asking the kids to do that today ?
Regarding the certificates one of my favourite observations is how they amended the details between the 1924 cert, how the bottom left crest is the Cape Colony, and the 1925 one which has been reworked to show the United S. Africa.
